MVA helps utilities, power generation facilities and industrial operations install, maintain, diagnose and repair critical transformer equipment. Our field crews support projects nationwide, from scheduled transformer maintenance and electrical testing to major repairs and extra-high-voltage transformer assembly. When a problem calls for more investigation, MVA’s oil diagnostics laboratory and field team can work together to identify the issue and carry out the next steps.
A successful installation depends on careful assembly, oil processing and testing before a transformer enters service. MVA provides transformer assembly and vacuum filling for power and EHV units, followed by transformer electrical testing that establishes a baseline for future condition assessments. Our crews have experience commissioning transformers up to 765 kV and 1,000 MVA.
Planned transformer maintenance gives owners an opportunity to address developing problems before they become outages. MVA can help evaluate transformer condition, investigate leaks, assess insulating oil, inspect components and complete corrective work during scheduled outages. The scope can be tailored to the equipment’s age, operating history and maintenance priorities.
Our maintenance capabilities include regasketing, load tap changer service, bushing replacement, oil processing and component replacement.
When test results or operating conditions raise concerns, MVA’s electrical testing and diagnostic services help assess transformer condition and guide maintenance or repair decisions. Testing may include power factor, winding resistance, sweep frequency response analysis and other tests appropriate to the unit and the issue being investigated.
Our team reviews the findings together with available oil test results and equipment history, then provides recommendations for the next step. We also perform commissioning tests on newly installed units to establish results for future comparison.
MVA performs on-site transformer repairs for planned outages and unexpected equipment problems. Depending on the condition of the unit, work may include leak detection and repair, gasket and seal replacement, vacuum dehydration and dry-out, oil degasification, or replacement of bushings, pumps, current transformers and other components.
Our field crews also support load tap changer inspection and repair, as well as high-voltage breaker assembly, maintenance and repair.
Fluid condition is an essential part of transformer reliability. MVA offers hot oil reclamation, retrofilling, oil processing, dehydration and degasification. These services can be coordinated with installation, maintenance or repair work, with oil samples tested as needed to evaluate fluid condition.
MVA connects transformer oil laboratory findings with work in the field. Oil testing can reveal signs of overheating, electrical activity, moisture or insulation deterioration. Our team can then help determine whether additional electrical testing, maintenance or repair is needed and perform that work on site.
Whether you’re planning a new transformer installation, scheduling maintenance or responding to a transformer problem, MVA can help you determine the scope of work and move the project forward.
