MVA can help extend the life of your transformer by removing harmful contaminants from the oil that attack your cellulose insulation. As a transformer ages, hydrocarbons in the mineral oil will form oxidation byproducts that, when combined with heat, moisture and oxygen, will accelerate the destruction of the insulation. This cyclical process cannot be stopped and if ignored, will cause a transformer to overheat and eventually fail. Proactively monitoring through oil testing and periodic oil processing is necessary to retard the breakdown cycle.
MVA can help protect your transformer by mobilizing one of our oil processing rigs to perform hot oil reclamation. This process can be performed without taking an outage and involves circulating the oil from the transformer through our fullers earth tanks, filters and vacuum dehydration column to remove acid, sludge, and other decaying byproducts from the oil. By removing these harmful contaminants, the transformer will be left with clean, degassed and dry oil with excellent properties, ensuring the transformer can continue to function properly.
