High-Voltage Circuit Breaker Repair

A circuit breaker that fails to operate as expected can disrupt an outage plan and raise concerns about the protection of connected equipment. MVA provides field repair support for high-voltage circuit breakers, helping customers investigate the problem, address the cause and plan the steps needed before the breaker returns to service.

Find the Cause Before Making the Repair

A breaker issue may involve its operating mechanism, controls, connections or other components. The right repair starts with understanding what happened and reviewing the equipment’s condition, operating history and manufacturer guidance.

MVA’s field team evaluates the reported issue and the accessible components to help define the repair scope. Where additional testing or replacement parts are needed, we work with the customer to determine the next steps and coordinate the work around site and outage requirements.

Repair Support During Planned and Unplanned Outages

Some concerns are discovered during a scheduled inspection. Others become apparent when a breaker does not perform as intended. In either case, the work must be organized around safe access to the equipment, parts availability and the time available during the outage.

MVA supports field repairs for utilities, power generation facilities and industrial customers. Our crews can also coordinate breaker work with transformer maintenance or other substation services being completed at the site.

Confirm the Work Before Return to Service

Completing a repair is only one part of resolving a breaker concern. The repaired equipment should be inspected and evaluated under the applicable project and manufacturer requirements before it is returned to operation. MVA works with the customer’s team to document the work performed and identify any additional service needs.
