Transformer oil has two essential jobs: providing electrical insulation and carrying heat away from internal components. Maintaining its condition is an important part of caring for the equipment. When moisture, dissolved gases or particulate contamination affect the fluid, onsite treatment may help restore properties needed for reliable service.
MVA brings mobile transformer oil-processing equipment directly to your facility, coordinating treatment with the work your transformer needs. Our field crews support projects ranging from preparing oil for a new installation to conditioning fluid following repairs or during scheduled maintenance.
Transformer oil processing combines treatment methods selected for the fluid’s condition and the project’s objectives. Each part of the process addresses a different concern:
Degasification: Vacuum treatment draws dissolved gases out of the oil.
Dehydration: Controlled heating and vacuum help reduce moisture in the fluid.
Filtration: Filters capture suspended particles as oil passes through the equipment.
Together, these methods help prepare insulating oil for filling or continued use. MVA’s processing equipment also supports transformer assembly and vacuum-filling projects, where oil conditioning is an important part of preparing the unit for service.
The reason for processing matters. A newly installed transformer may need its oil conditioned before final filling. Equipment opened for a repair may require treatment as part of the restoration process. An existing unit may need attention after oil testing identifies a change in fluid condition.
MVA considers the equipment, available test results and scope of work when planning the service. Oil processing can be coordinated with:
Transformer installation and commissioning
Bushing replacement, regasketing and other repairs
Replacement-fluid preparation during a retrofill
Scheduled transformer maintenance
By including oil treatment in the broader project plan, our team can address fluid condition alongside the mechanical and electrical work.
Oil processing should have a clear purpose and a way to evaluate the outcome. Sampling before treatment establishes the starting condition and helps identify which fluid properties need attention. Additional samples during the work can help track progress, while testing afterward provides a record of the treated oil’s condition.
MVA combines onsite capabilities with transformer oil diagnostics, giving customers access to both the service and the laboratory information needed to assess it. The testing plan can be tailored to the reason for treatment and the requirements of the project.
Degasification and processing address gases, moisture and suspended particles. Oil affected by chemical deterioration may require a different approach, such as hot oil reclamation. When replacing the insulating fluid is appropriate, MVA also provides transformer retrofilling.
Understanding the fluid’s condition helps determine which service will address the concern. Our team can review the available information and help establish an appropriate scope of work.
Oil treatment is one part of maintaining a transformer. MVA brings together field service experience, oil diagnostics and repair capabilities to support the equipment as a whole.
Whether you are planning an installation, preparing for an outage or responding to changes in oil test results, we can help coordinate the next steps.
